Language learning at the University of Cologne
The language lab does not yet offer language classes, but as student at the University of Cologne you have many options to take a language course at the University of Cologne in addition to your degree program:
Language courses
Faculty of Arts and Humanities
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities offers various language classes in European and non-European languages as part of the Studium Integrale and extracurricalar classes. Some of the classes are only offered every two semesters, i.e. on an annual basis. The courses are listed in Klips 2.0 under the abbreviation SI for "Studium Integrale" and EA for "Extracurricalares Angebot".
Students can sign up for the language courses directly via KLIPS. Please be aware of the corresponding registration deadlines.
If you have any questions regarding the studium integrale, please contact si-philfak(at)uni-koeln.de. Alternatively, you can contact the relevant office of the department that offers the language course of your interest direktly (e.g. Portuguese-Brazilian Institute for Portuguese classes).
Professional Center
Another option in the Studium Integrale is The Professional Center of the University of Cologne, which, in cooperation with the Berlitz language school, offers English, French and Spanish language courses. These courses can also be booked in the Professional Center's course catalog as part of Studium Integrale via KLIPS. Klips registration deadlines also apply here.
Self-study
To support the self-study of languages, the language lab offers various materials students can borrow from the language lab library.
